I retired from the Metropolitan Poice in January 2015, at the rank of Detective Inspector. I am currently vetted by Thames Valley Police for a role I carry out for the local Business Crime Partnership on an ad hoc basis. The security of a police pension means my quotes are always keenly priced and top quality parts are utilised.

I have always been interested in and enjoyed developing practical skills . On retirement I obtained Gas Safe certification and set myself up as a Sole Trader.

I have renovated 3 houses in the last couple of years that I rent out. This means I have gained experience of a wide range of tasks and have also made trustworthy  contacts within other trades that I utilise as required.

My last 2 main jobs included a complete installation of gas, boiler, radiators, bathroom (inc mixer shower) and associated plumbing such as extending plumbing and drainage for a kitchen sink and washing machine to a house that was not previously connected to the gas main.

The next job I finished on 27th July 2017, involved  changing a traditional gravity fed system to a sealed combi pressurised system. The customer was quoted £8,813, by a national energy supplier and I did it for £3,000.  It was  a 3rd story flat and there were many issues to be resolved as per Gas Safe regulations  for example in routing the flue. Huge savings were made by running it directly outside using a plumage kit thereby negating the need for a vertical flue through the roof space and cost of scaffolding as previously quoted.

Many other savings were made For example I have also got certain electrical qualifications which saved the £279 cost of an electrician.

In between I have carried out the usual boiler services, breakdowns , installation of hobs  and Landlord Gas Safety certification etc.

My next main project is to renovate a house, find tenants and manage it for a minimum of 2 years while the owner is abroad. The last tenants left it in a sorry state and had to be evicted. Fortunately I have the tools to for example to clear the garden which is a jungle.

In summary my core role is gas and associated plumbing but can do other tasks like project/property management or as I have recently done I redecorated offices prior to them being handed back to the landlord under the dilapidation clause in the lease.
