Gas Boiler (Install, Service, Repair) - Combi Boiler, System Boiler, Condensing Boiler, Regular/Conventional Boiler
Combi (Combination) boilers are sealed systems that are ideal for smaller home as they are space savers as they instantly heat water from the mains the moment a hot water tap or radiator demands heat. This eliminates the need for a separate water tank. They come in different output / kilowatt capacities to cater for different sized homes. All combi boilers are condensing boilers which are more efficient to run.
Choosing the right combi boiler depends on the size of your home, your installation requirements and often different brands have their own unique selling points. This is a handy sized guide to follow;
10 radiators + 1 bathroom = output of 24 – 27kw
15 radiators + 1 / 2 bathrooms = output of 28 – 34kw
16 radiators or more + 2 or more bathrooms = output of 35 – 42kw

System boilers directly heat the central heating system while hot water is produced with a storage cylinder. Water is taken from the mains eliminating a need for power showers or for a water supply tank. System boilers need to store hot water for hot water to be ready 24/7.
Choosing a system boiler depends on the amount of people living in the property with their water demands as well as the size of the property. System boilers are best for larger homes with high water demands. Their flow rates are good for filling a bath quickly and for coping with 2 or more showers being used at once.

Condensing boilers are able to use more of the energy they create therefore condensing boilers are more efficient and greener so always a better choice for your home. Condensing boilers are also safer and has helped decrease CO2 emissions in the UK.
All new modern boilers are condensing boilers since a law came out in 2005 insisting boiler replacements and new installs are only condensing boilers. Decide if you need a boiler to provide heating and hot water or boiler for heat-only. Then consider the size of your home and the demand for heating and hot water to decide between combination boiler and vented or unvented system boilers.

Conventional boilers can also be referred to as regular / traditional / heat only boilers. Areas suffering from low water pressure will benefit from a conventional boiler set up. They do take up extra space as they need a hot water storage cylinder and a water tank but conventional boilers can provide large volumes of hot water to multiple bathrooms.
Make sure you have enough space (eg in a loft) to install the hot water storage cylinder and a water. Decide whether you need the boiler to heat up radiators only or also provide you hot water. Take note of the size of your property for different sized boilers.
