What does a window fitter and double glazing expert do?

A window and double glazing expert will consider all factors affecting your current windows, and then make a recommendation on the best way to repair or replace them. They can factor in style and design requirements, while advising on the most cost-effective way to ensure your home stays insulated and secure.

Window fitters and double glazing experts can help you with:

Noise reduction: By fitting double glazed uPVC windows, a specialist can significantly reduce the outside noise that can be heard from inside your house.

Energy efficiency: A window and double glazing specialist can recommend the best way to heat and cool your home cost-effectively. They will find the right window for your needs and help you to keep your home comfortably, affordably heated.

Security: Having secure locks and burglar alarms fitted on your windowsills will enhance your home security and give you peace of mind. The right window specialist can suggest which type of lock would be most suitable for your property and budget.

Here are a few of the main tasks carried out by window fitters:

  • Interpretation of blueprints: Window fitters interpret plans drawn by architects and follow building specifications, to ensure the idea on paper is properly manifested in real life.
  • Installation of windows: Fitters will install windows with wooden, plastic and metal frames, as per requirements. They can install structural glass, roof lights, velux windows, sash windows and more, and take care of double glazed window installation.
  • Window repair and maintenance: A good window fitter can carry out maintenance of your windows to ensure they are in optimal condition. If any problem is found, they can carry out the necessary repair. Some will specialise in double glazing window repairs.
  • Measurement: A window fitter measures space for windows to be installed and seals fittings to protect the newly-installed windows from inclement weather.

Replace porch roof, front & back doors

Existing rear porch Perspex roof has always been an issue because it doesn't project into the gutter properly and so drips down the timberwork and has caused it to rot. I'm keen to have the roof replaced and take the opportunity to smarten up the back with a new back door, and a new front door whilst we're there. In detail: a) New double-glazed back porch doors and ‘flag frame’ windows either side. Would want to keep at least top half glass to let light in, b) Glass roof to improve appearance and light input and also ensure it properly projects into gutter (which current Perspex roof doesn’t now which is why it keeps rotting). Needs a solution for soil stack which projects through the roof, so either needs polycarbonate or opaque panel just where that is, or shortened glass panel with lead flashing, c) Sand down and repaint of soil stack above and below roof, d) Replace a couple of cracked slates where necessary on small roof just above the porch roof (I can probably provide slate), e) Quote for new PVC front door but heritage style to go with house and we want to have timber architrave replaced on top of the door inside and outside to retain authenticity. Keen to ensure outside architrave is exactly the same, either carefully remove and replace original or more likely machine new timber to match original moulding.
