Local damp proof specialist who can quickly and easily fix damage to concrete or brick walls while applying a proof membrane to stop it reoccurring and protect timber from decaying with a dry rot fungus.

No job too small, identifying the type of woodworm infection in your home, if it is still active and what timber foundation has been damaged or inject a chemical damp proof course (DPC) into a wall with rising damp. Or too big, transforming unused basement space into a warm dry living area by basement tanking which is applying a liquid waterproof coating to the walls and floors or preserving all the timber structures and frames in the home with a treatment to prevent dry or wet rot.

Domestic damp proof specialist services include;

Damp proof

  • rising damp, water entering from the ground and rising up can appear on walls built on ground foundation
  • penetrating damp, from blocked gutters or cracked walls
  • condensation, which can lead to black mould forming in rooms on the walls and ceilings
  • Structural waterproofing, creating a dry environment and also protecting against deterioration
  • cavity membrane system, applied to the junction of wall and floor, using a sump pump to remove water
  • DPC installation, best with a combination of injection and tanking compound
  • repairing and replacing corroded cavity wall ties

Rot and mould

  • dry rot, fungal decay on timber treatment
  • wet rot, caused by dampness and lack of ventilation
  • timber preservation, to avoid wood rot in the frames
  • woodworm from any wood-boring beetle, which causes structural weakening

So, if you need a damp proof specialist to service or repair something in your home HaMuch has thousands of friendly, The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) Association registered professionals ready to help with your condensation on the windowsill, moisture collecting in the retaining wall, rising damp coming from the basement and waterproofing your home with roof underlays.

Do I need a damp proofing specialist?

If you think your home is being affected by water penetration or condensation problems, it’s important to call a damp proofing specialist. Damp problems — which typically include mould, woodworm and dry or wet rot — can cause significant damage to your property, can result in health problems for those who live there, and can even lead to a significant decline in the value of your home.

While damp problems and condensation issues can occur in any property, they are particularly common in older builds and period homes, as these types of buildings may have been constructed without a damp proof membrane (also known as ‘tanking’).

Every home should have some form of moisture control applied to its walls and floors, designed to prevent moisture from passing into interior spaces. Don’t put off getting your property assessed by an expert; if you think your house has damp, act quickly.

What does a damp proofing specialist do?

Damp proofing your building is not a DIY project; it requires expert knowledge, industrial materials and a proper understanding of the building’s structure. Repairing or installing damp proof materials is more tricky than it may seem, and includes the following:

  • Sourcing and installing materials: Specialist materials must be acquired and installed to prevent damp from rising through the fabric of your walls. A common method of damp proofing involves fitting a preventative slate barrier, referred to as a ‘damp proof course’, into the base of the walls. This is the sort of job that requires a knowledgeable and trusted builder with damp proofing expertise to be done safely and efficiently.
  • Closing cracks and holes: In most cases, special types of resin will need to be injected into targeted points of the building to close up cracks and holes that have been created. This requires the knowledge and skills of an expert damp proofing specialist.
